EEAC Webinar: Imagining futures: foresight tools for advisory councils.Key takeaways from the webinar: Foresight is not about predicting the future, but rather exploring the range of possibilities and how they can inform policy action. Foresight exercises can improve policy coherence and future-proof policies as they increase awareness of opportunities and risks. To combat pessimism and future fatigue, foresight can be used to create positive images of the future. Public engagement in foresight is essential

During this webinar two external speakers, Anne-Katrin Bock from the JRC and Vadim Kononenko from the EEA, shared insights on using foresight, horizon scanning and megatrends in their daily work.

The session as well included presentations on the the practical applications of futuring in the work of advisory council. Katriina Siivonen (FEPSD) presented the project Room 2050, Maya Bogers (WKR) elaborated on the council’s report “Fast Forward with Vision” and Gemma O’Reilly (NESC) introduced a futuring exercise on energy transition.

The event was a great success and the EEAC Network is planning a follow up session to explore the topic of futuring and foresight even further.
